New! Hands-on workshops at Alumapalooza 7

As veteran Alumapaloozites will tell you, each event is different from year to year, and we’re already working on new seminars, activities and entertainment for the next Alumpalooza at the Airstream factory May 31—June 5, 2016.

One of the new activities featured at Alumapalooza 7 will be a hands-on “workshop day” that’s sure to be both fun and invaluable for every Airstreamer, newbie or longtimer. You’ll get a chance to develop—or experience for the first time—skills and procedures that you might not want to try on your own trailer without practice. To ramp up the fun, prizes will be awarded for excellence and creativity at each station!

Instructors will be on hand to guide you as you try your hand at:

PEX toolsWorking with PEX—cross-linked polyethylene—the water lines that are better for RVs than PVC or copper tubing. You’ll benefit from classroom instruction with ample Q&A and hands-on assembly of PEX tubing. Teams of two will compete to build the most artistic contraption using a set of supplied materials.

SpareTire changing, with a demo and practice of the technique on a dual axle trailer. (Who can change a tire the fastest?)

12-Volt basics: Fault diagnosis, simple repairs, and more. Participants will practice stripping and splicing wires, pulling fuses, and cleaning grounds.

Fire safety—Learn extinguisher procedure, maintenance, and technique—then pull the trigger and put out a fire!

Sealants—Identify potential leaks, and remove and replace faulty sealant. Get your hands on the sticky stuff as you apply sealant to a typical roof section.

Drilling and riveting—Practicing riveting is an Alumapalooza tradition! You’ll learn the basic techniques required to drill out old rivets, chop off heads, drill new holes, and replace our beloved POP rivets. Emphasis on belly pan repairs.Rivet 1

Polishing—Learn from an ongoing demonstration and a hands-on opportunity to run the buffer on our demo trailer.Buffer

Backing for novices—An instructor will guide you through a simple course to learn how to back up, the most useful trailering skill.

Too much fun! All the workshops will be free to registered Alumapalooza 7 attendees. We’re still working on the details; some class sizes may be limited, and courses may change as the event nears. Stay tuned to this site for updates, and sign up soon—registration for Alumapalooza 7 is underway. (Save your space before September 30, 2015 and get a free event t-shirt!)
